Drashti Dhami is an Indian TV actress and model. She is one of the top celebrities on TV and is famous for her roles as ‘Geet’ in the serial ‘Geet – Hui Sabse Parayi’ and as ‘Madhu’ in the soap opera “Madhubala – Ek Ishq Ek Junoon.
Career
Dhami began her career as a dance instructor and then moved to modelling. As a model she worked in varied TV commercials and print campaigns including ads for Colgate, Lion Honey, Pulimoottil SILKS, RKS Grand shopping mall, VIP Bags, Amul, and Vasan Eye care.
Drashti has appeared in many music videos and her debut music video was the immensely popular ‘Saiyan Dil Mein Aana Re’ remix version by Harry Anand. Other music videos featuring her include the remix of ‘Humko Aaj Kal Hai Intezar,’ ‘Teri Meri Nazar Ki Dori,’ and ‘Nachle Soniye Tu’ a Punjabi song.
Dhami made acting debut on TV as the jovial ‘Dr. Muskaan Chadda’ in the serial ‘Dill Mill Gayye.’ Later she was cast as the lead actress for the first time in the soap Geet – Hui Sabse Parayi. Her portrayal of Geet in the serial was very popular and made her one of the most sought after actresses on TV. She then acted in the serial ‘Madhubala -Ek Ishq Ek Junoon’ as Madhubala/Madhu which was also loved by the audience. She is currently playing the role of ‘Gayatri’ in the television drama ‘Ek Tha Raja Ek Thi Rani’ telecast on Zee TV.
Dhami won the finals of season 6 Jhalak Dikhla Jaa by defeating internationally acclaimed dancer Lauren Gottlieb. This was no mean feat!
Personal Life and Trivia
- Drashti was born on 10th Jan 1985 in Mumbai. Hers was a moderately conservative Gujarati family. She attended Borivali’s St. Immaculate Girl’s High School and later enrolled at Mithibai College in Mumbai for higher studies. She received a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the college.
- Dhami married NRI businessman Neeraj Khemka on 21 February 2015. The couple had been dating for some years before the wedding. Khemka has now moved to Mumbai.
- Drashti has more than 100,000 followers on Twitter which is a record for a television actress.
- Dhami’s sister-in-law ‘Suhasi Dhami’ is also an actress. She played the role of ‘Abha’ in the soap ‘Yahaan Mein Ghar Ghar Kheli.’
