Sonam Kapoor is an Indian film actress, celebrity endorses, and a style icon. The 5’9″ beauty made her acting debut in 2007 in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Saawariya’ opposite Ranbir Kapoor. The film was a commercial failure and so were her subsequent films like Delhi-6. Her first major hit came in 2010 with the movie ‘I Hate Luv Storys.’ The 2013 film ‘Raanjhanaa’ was her first big blockbuster movie. Sonam was born on June 9 1985 in Chembur, Mumbai to producer-actor Anil Kapoor and designer and former model Sunita Kapoor. The family moved to a Juhu suburb when she was just a month old.
Sonam has a brother Harshvardan and a sister Rhea who is a producer. Film producer Surinder Kapoor is her paternal grandfather and filmmaker Boney Kapoor and actor Sanjay Kapoor are her uncles. Sridevi is her aunt by her marriage to Boney Kapoor. Actors Mohit Marwahand Arjun Kapoor are her cousins. Sonam has stated that she is very close to her paternal grandmother who has had a great influence in building her personality.
Sonam was obese in her teens and weighed more than 80 kilograms. She has borderline diabetes, insulin resistance, and polycystic ovarian disease. She lost nearly 40 kilos after she was offered the female lead in her debut movie. Now, Sonam is careful about what she eats and keeps a fitness regime, which is her secret for a slim, lithe figure.
Kapoor did her schooling from Juhu’s Arya Vidya Mandir School. She then enrolled for pre-university education at the United World College of South East Asia in Singapore where she studies arts and theater. Sonam is especially happy that the building has a mini-theater, where she can host her movies.
