Irfan caught the attention of well-known singer and legend S. P. Balasubrahmanyam when he was singing at a concert hosted by a musical institute in Hyderabad. He subsequently recommended Irfan’s name to music composer A.R. Rahman. Thus came about his playback singing debut in the 2010 Mani Ratnam directed movie ‘Raavan.’ In addition to the awesome background vocals, Irfan was also appreciated for the song ‘Behene De’ which he sang along with Karthik. The song not only met with critical acclaim but also topped the music charts for several successive weeks. After ‘Raavan,’ Irfan sang two songs called ‘Rehmat Zara’ and ‘Salaam Zindagi’ for Lamhaa composed by Mithoon. The former even got him a best debut male singer award.

Irfan’s career took off after he recorded the song ‘Phir Mohabbat’ along with Saim Bhat and Arijit Singh in the 2011 Mukesh Bhatt produced mystery-drama movie ‘Murder 2.’ Of late, he has worked with many well-known music directors and composers like Himesh Reshammiya, Sajid-Wajid, Jeet Ganguly, and Meet Bros Anjjan, etc. Some of his hit songs include ‘Tu Hi Tu’ from Salman Khan-starrer ‘Kick,’ ‘Banjaara’ from the hit movie ‘Ek Villain,’ and ‘Baarish’ from the film ‘Yaariyan.’
