Mawra Hussain, or Mawra Hocane, is a popular Pakistani TV and film actress, model, and VJ.
Life and career
Hocane was born on 28th September 1992 in Karachi. Her family moved to Islamabad when she was a child and she grew up in the capital city. She attended Bahria College and finished her pre-medical studies. She is currently enrolled at the University College of Islamabad and studying law. TV actress Urwa Hocane is her elder sister.
When Mawra was in the 7th grade she changed her surname from ‘Hussain’ to ‘Hocane’ so as to make it sound more distinctive. Urwa also subsequently changed her surname to ‘Hocane.’ Thus, their legal family name is ‘Hussain’ but their show business surname is Hocane.
Mawra began her career in media and entertainment as a theater artist. She later joined ARY Musik as a VJ. As a first time VJ, Hocane became very popular. She then began hosting many other shows as well. ‘Boom On Live’ was one of the shows which garnered her immense adoration and popularity. Her increasing popularity laid the foundations of her entry into modelling.
As a model, Mawra did many television commercials for brands such as Telenor, Warid, and Mobilink, etc. as well as walked the ramp. Soon, she started getting acting offers on TV. Her 2012 debut acting show on TV was ‘Mere Huzoor’ and telecast on Hum TV. Her performance was widely appreciated by both critics and the audience. She also won the Best Soap Actress nomination for it at the HUM TV Awards ceremony. Some of the other popular Pakistan TV’s soap operas that she worked in include Ik Tamanna Lahasil Si, Aahista Aahista, and Nikhar Gaye Gulab Sare.
Mawra will make her Bollywood acting debut with the upcoming movie ‘Sanam Teri Kasam.’ She is also working in 2 other Bollywood movies besides her debut film.
The beautiful actress says that when she listened to the narration of the story ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’, she was hooked. She says, “Radhika and Vinay called me and narrated the story to me on Skype. The moment they told me that the story is about a simple, bespectacled girl, I knew I wanted to do it. Because when a girl wears spectacles in the film, she will also have a transformation. I will get to show both sides, which is a good thing for a debutante.”
Personal Life
- Hocane got engaged to ‘Aamish Azha’ after dating him for some time. Their relationship was and is the talk of the town and regularly features in gossip news and columns.
- She is active on the social media platforms. She was harassed on social media after she tweeted about ‘Phantom,’ a Bollywood film that was banned in Pakistan.
