Nushrat Bharucha’s steady rise is a telling indication of the fact that you do no really need to be a star daughter to be a hit. The bubbly actress born in a Bohra family on May 17, 1985 was always someone who was interested in theater and plays. She studied in Lilavati Podar High School and then went to Jai Hind College.

Nushrat, when she was in first year college volunteered to work for a talent management firm. They hired her to work in the TV Serial ‘Kitty Party’ on Zee TV. This was way back in 2002. However, Nushrat dropped out of the show, because she did not like the long hours of work and ego issues at the sets.
Nushrat says that in her Bohri family, acting is not really considered a profession and she had told her family members that she was just doing a summer job. Her parents, mother Tasneem (home-maker) and father Tanvir, a businessman supported her decision soon enough, but they were worried that they would not be able to get her married to a good Bohra.
Opportunity knocked again at her doorstep in the form of her debut movie ‘Jai Santosh Maa’ in 2006. . She gained some recognition for her performance in Love, Sex aur Dhokha in 2010. But it was Pyaar Ka Punchnama (2011) directed by Luv Ranjan that made her famous. The movie was a moderate hit when it released, but over the years, it has turned into a cult movie striking resonance with the young crowd. Nushrat also worked in Akaash Vani (2013) and Darr@ The Mall (2014).
The director Luv Ranjan directed the sequel and released Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 (2015), which was based on the same plot but had a different treatment. Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 turned out to be one of the biggest hits of 2015.

She will be seen in a Tamil movie called Valliba Raja, a comedy that stars Santhanam, Sethu and Vishakha Singh. The movie is due to release in December 2015.

The actress says, “Being opposite an established star definitely helps. People know a Nargis Fakhri or an Ileana De’Cruz more than they know me, because they have been paired opposite big stars. Or you have to have a filmmaker like Karan Johar who likes to give enough limelight to the newcomers. But if you do not have both, you have to be sincere with your work. I haven’t quite figured out a formula that works in Bollywood. “
She adds, “For me, anyone who has helped me is my godfather. Right from my producer Kumar Mangat to my director to my casting director. These people could have taken a bigger star, but they invested so much time, money and effort on me. I am really thankful to them. At one point of time, I had a huge list of people, I wanted to work with. But since the past year, I have decided that I would rather work with a director who wants to work with me. “
