Rohit Shetty is an Indian movie director and a cinematographer, who is best known for super hit blockbuster movies like the Golmaal series, Bol Bachchan, Singham and Singham Returns, and Chennai Express for which he won a Filmfare Award for Best Director nomination. Family Background and Personal Life
Rohit Shetty was born in Mumbai on March 14 1973 to Mudhu B. Shetty/M.B.Shetty, an action choreographer, actor, and stuntman, and Ratna, a junior artiste in the Indian Hindi film industry. Uday Shetty and Hriday Shetty are his brothers. He also has 4 sisters.
Rohit did his schooling at St Mary’s School in Mumbai. He was however more interested in films than studies. He decided to become a director instead of an actor when he was only 13 or 14 years old. Subsequently at age 17 years, he started working as an assistant to director Kuku Kohli.

Career
Shetty began his career as an assistant director to Kuku Kohli when he was shooting the debut movie of Ajay Devgn ‘Phool Aur Kaante.’He continued working as an assistant for nearly 13 years and did varied movies like Suhaag, Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha, Haqeeqat, Raju Chacha, and Zulmi.
In 2003, at the age of 30 years, Rohit became and independent director and directed the Ajay Devgn starrer ‘Zameen.’ The movie was a commercial and critical failure. He then directed the super hit comedy film Golmaal in 2006. The movie was such a big hit that Rohit turned it into a franchise. The sequels that followed were also blockbusters and Golmaal 3 broke many records. Singham was a hit action movie for which he garnered a lot of praise for the amazing action sequences. But his best work was the mega hit ‘Chennai Express.’ It is currently the 4th highest grossing Bollywood movie of all time.
