Career
Sunil Grover was discovered by late comedian and producer Jaspal Bhatti. In the beginning, he acted in the first silent comedy television series ‘Gutur Gu’ in Sab TV. He went on do parodied versions of Shah Rukh Khan in shows like ‘Kya Aap Panchvi Fail Champu Hain’ and ‘Kaun Banega Champu?’. Both of these shows were highly entertaining and have good views on YouTube, but they didn’t get as much attention when they were aired on TV, because the TV channels on which these shows were aired, didn’t enjoy mass appeal.
The talented actor’s big break came with Comedy Nights with Kapil, aired on Colors Channel. The show changed the fortunes of everyone associated with it, including Grover. His character ‘Gutthi’ became a viral sensation on social media. He later decided to break free amicably from Kapil Sharma’s show and started his own show ‘Mad in India’ on Star Plus. The show was a fiasco and Sunil joined hands with Kapil once again, to make the show more rocking than ever.
Unfortunately, Comedy Nights with Kapil had to wind up in 2015 due to differences between the team and the channel. The team came back as one in ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’. Sunil Grover was so good as Doctor Mashoor Gulati, Rinku Bhabhi and other characters. Just when the going was good for Kapil Sharma and Sunil Grover, Kapil reportedly entered into a mid-air fracas in a plane with his team members which included Sunil Grover. Sunil made it evident on Twitter that he would not work with Kapil in the show.
The ‘Kapil Sharma Show’ worked for few more weeks before it was pulled out. Kapil Sharma’s fight proved to be a decisive point, making his career go down in doldrums with every move he made. He sought to make a comeback with the film called ‘Firangi’ which made huge losses at the box office. Kapil continued to lose money and sunk deep into depression.
Sunil Grover continued to do live acts and did not associate with any television shows that Kapil’s former team members went on to make. Kapil and Sunil had a war of sorts again on Twitter, when Kapil was on the verge of starting another show called ‘Family Time with Kapil Sharma’. Kapil alleged that Sunil didn’t take his calls, while he said that he never received any information about the show. Nevertheless, Sunil Grover teamed up with Shilpa Shinde for a show on Jio called ‘Jio dan dana dan ‘. While Sunil’s show turned out to be a huge hit, Kapil’s show ‘Family Time with Kapil Sharma’ turned out to be a massive flop.
