Ranveer Singh has emerged as the most reliable Bollywood star, thanks to his power-packed performances and his ability to get into the skin of the character. In 2018, while the Khans failed like a pack of cards, Ranveer Singh shone like a beacon with two major hits – Padmaavat and Simbaa, where he proved his versatility as the cunning Jalauddin Khilji and the funny cop Sangram Bhalerao, respectively. 2019 also appears to be a solid year for Ranveer.
First up is ‘Gully Boy’, a movie on the underground rap music scene in India. It is based on the life of the rapper Divine. Cast opposite him is Alia Bhat in the role of Sakina. The movie releases on February 14, 2019. Judging by the euphoria the trailer has generated, the Farhan Akhtar – Reema Kagti has a winner on cards.
Shooting for Karan Johar’s magnum opus ‘Takht’ begins in August 2019, and will go on for six to eight months. This is a multi-star cast movie ‘a K3G of Mughal era;’ as Karan Johar puts it, has Ranveer Singh playing the role of Dara Shikoh, the eldest son of Shahjahan, Vicky Kaushal plays the role of his younger brother, Aurangzeb. Kareena Kapoor plays the role of Shahjahan’s daughter, Jahanara Begum; Alia Bhatt is cast as Begum Nadira Banu, while Bhumi Pednekar will play the role of Aurangzeb’s wife Dilras Banu Begum. Janhvi Kapoor is also cast in the role as a slave girl, in this movie that is all about the fight to the Mughal throne.
2020 will also bring out the best in Ranveer Singh, as he preps for the role of Kapil Dev in the Kabir Khan directed movie. The movie is based on India’s unexpected, spectacular win in the 1983 World Cup. Ranveer Singh has stated that it is a tough role to play considering it is not an easy job to replicate Kapil’s inimitable bowling action, on screen. The release date of the movie has been fixed on April 10, 2020.
