Sara Ali Khan, the beautiful daughter of Amrita Singh and Saif Ali Khan, made her debut as an actress in 2018. And what a debut it has been!
Even before she made her acting debut, Sara had already amassed a significant number of fans and following in the media via her social media posts about her fitness videos, transformation from fat to fit, and varied appearances in public.
The first movie that Sara signed on to star as the female lead was the Abhishek Kapoor directed romantic drama Kedarnath. Shooting for the film stopped midway due to some reasons and Sara subsequently began filming for Rohit Shetty’s Simbaa. Kapoor then sued Sara and the matter was settled out of court after Khan reached an agreement with Kapoor that she split her time and shoot for both the movies.
Kedarnath hit the theaters on December 7, 2018. It starred Sushant Singh Rajput as the male lead. The inter-faith Hindu-Muslim love story had the Jun 2013 Uttarakhand flood disaster as the backdrop. Upon release, the film did average business at the box office and till Jan 2019 has had collections of around INR 95.35 crores. Kedarnath had mixed reviews, but critics were in general agreement about the good performance by Sara.
Sara had her blockbuster megafilm debut with the Karan Johar produced action cop drama Simbaa. A remake of Telugu hit ‘Temper’, Simbaa featured superstar Ranveer Singh in the lead as a corrupt cop, who mends his ways when his family faces abuse. The film released in theaters on 28th December 2018 and collected INR 100 crores at the box office over just the weekend. Critics were critical about the lack of chemistry between the lead couple in the movie and most were of the opinion that Sara had little to do in Simbaa other than look gorgeous.
As of Jan 2019, Simbaa has earned over INR 330 crores worldwide, thereby making it the third highest grossing Bollywood film of 2018.
Sara Ali Khan has not been finalized as a cast member in any of the movies after Kedarnath and Simbaa. It is however rumored that she will star opposite Tiger Shroff in Baaghi 3. Sara has however denied the rumors. The poster of the third installment of the Baaghi series has already been launched and its release date has been set to 6th March 2020.
