Alia Bhatt has established himself as the Best Actress among the contemporary lot. She has been consistently giving award-worthy performances in hit movies like Kapoor and Sons, and Udta Punjab in 2016, Badrinath ki Dulhaniya in 2017, and Raazi, in 2018. So what is in store for 2019?
First up is Gully Boy, this one releases on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2019. It is produced by Excel Entertainment, the team comprising Farhan Akhtar, Zoya Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, and is based on the life of underground rappers Divine (played by Ranveer Singh). Alia’s character is a girl called Sakina.
Next up is ‘Kalank’ a multi-star cast film directed by Abhishek Varman who directed ‘2 States’. The film is co-produced by Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala. This period drama film has Alia Bhatt playing Nusrat Bibi, the protegee of a courtesan Ishmat, played by Madhuri Dixit.
The movie also has Varun Dhawan, Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjay Dutt, Aditya Roy Kapur, Kunal Khemu, Kiara Advani and Kriti Sanon, among others. Did you know that the late Sridevi was originally selected for the role, that has now gone to Madhuri Dixit? Kalank is a period drama set in the 1940, and the story was actually visualized by Yash Chopra, 15 years ago. There are reports that he had even gone to Pakistan to scout for locations and had conducted hands-on research for the subject matter of the film. Kalank is set to release on April 19 2019. Incidentally, ‘Kalank’ was first called ‘Shidat’.
Brahmastra is all set to release on August 19, 2019. This is a fantasy movie directed by Ayan Mukherjee and produced by Karan Johar. The movie has Amitabh Bachchan playing ‘Brahma’ and Nagarjuna Akkineni playing ‘Vishnu’. Alia Bhatt plays Tara Bajwa, a college student, she is cast opposite Ranbir Kapoor. In the director Ayan Mukherjee’s words, it is a ‘contemporary film with ancient elements’.
Brahmastra is a trilogy, the movie will be made in 3 parts So the audience is not going to know the end in the first part, as the story carries on to the second part.
