The vivacious beauty Kavita Kaushhik who kept the viewers glued to their television sets as Chandramukhi Chautalam is one of the influential females faces in comedy on Indian Television. Early Life and family
Kavita is a Delhiite and was born in 1981 in a middle class family. She celebrates her birthday on 15th February. Her father Dinesh Chandra Kaushik is a former CRPF officer. She did her schooling from the prestigious all Saint’s School, Nainital. For her graduation, she attended Indra Prastha College for women from where she obtained a degree in Philosophy. Kavita is unmarried and has no children.
Hobbies
During her school days, Kavita displayed a taste in music which was different from her peers and was inclined towards Indian classical songs and old melodies such as Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammad Rafi songs instead of going by the fad of pop culture. Besides music, she is very passionate about cooking.
Career
Right from her college days, Kavita bagged modeling assignments owing to her beauty. Her impressive personality got her several anchoring and hosting jobs at events. She made her debut in Indian television with Ekta Kapoor’s Kutumb. She relocated to Mumbai after auditioning for the role. She initially got offers for primarily negative roles on screen and often when asked about it attributes it to her height of 5’11. She acted as Manya in the hit show Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki. She further went on to portray the character of Naina in Kumkum.
Other shows she has acted in, include Raat Hone Ko Hai, Tumhari Disha, Dil Kya chahta hai, Kesar, Ghar ek Sapna, Arre Diwano Mujhe pehchano and the popular show Remix where she played the role of Pallavi. But the role for which she is best known is that of Haryanvi cop Chandramukhi Chautala. She won the hearts of fans with the comic role and achieved fame nationwide. She signed off from the show for a short period but returned to complete one thousand episodes because heartbroken fans demanded her return from the makers of the show. Not only did she establish herself as a talented actress and comedian on the show but also proved her versatility on screen by experimenting with twists in the plot and dangerous stunts which her role demanded.
Kavita, like a few other co actors has also dared to venture into films. Her debut in films was in the movie Ek Hasina Thi in 2004. She further went on to act in the 2009 release Mumbai Cutting, which was followed by Phillum City in 2011 and a special appearance in Zanjeer in 2013. Talking about her take on films, she says although she loves doing them, she would never leave serials for doing films. She is also a participant in the popular dance reality show on Jhalak Dikhhla Ja (Season 8), 2015.
Awards
She has achieved critical acclaim for her roles and won several television awards. In 2010 she won the award for best Actress in a Comic Role at the 10th Indian Telly Awards and at the Indian Television Academy Awards. Her glory was carried forward to the next year of 2011 when she again won awards in the same category at Boroplus Gold Awards and Indian Television Academy Awards. In 2012 she again was honored at The Global Indian Film and TV Honours, 11th Indian Telly Awards and 5th Boroplus Gold Awards for best Actress in a Comic Role.
Controversies and relationships
Kavita Kaushik reportedly dated actor Karan V Grover for a while. The duo participated as a couple at the dance reality show Nach Baliye Season 3. The couple were deeply in love with each other and very open about their relationship. The relationship sadly came to an end in 2008. When asked about the reasons leading to the breakup, the couple claimed that their relationship had changed over a passage of time and it was better to take a step back and call it off. Kavita has not been known to date anyone else after that.
She was caught up in a controversy over a reported spat with her co star on the show, Aamir Ali. The duo had an argument over production issues as Aamir was not happy about the way Kavita was changing her dates for shooting in order to adjust dates of her show Tota aur Maina. Kavita stormed off the sets after the fight. However when asked about the same, she denied such an act of rage and display of unprofessionalism as walking off sets and disrespecting the cast and crew.
