Bhumi Pednekar is an upcoming Indian Film actress, known for her work in the Indian Hindi Film Industry, commonly known as “Bollywood”. Pednekar got her acting breakthrough in the 2015 film “Dum Laga Ke Haisha” produced by the Yash Raj Films Banner, one of the biggest film production companies in the country, for which she had to undergo massive physical transformation and received critical and commercial success.
Pednekar was felicitated with several awards and honours for her debut film, winning at almost all award functions in the country which include, a Filmfare Award, a Stardust Award, an IIFA Award, a Zee Cine Award, a Star Screen Award, a Producers Guild Film Award and a Big Star Entertainment award. Early Life and Education
Pednekar was born on 18 July 1989 in the city of Mumbai, Maharashtra, where she was also raised by her parents. She has mixed Haryanvi and Maharashtrian ancestry with her mother coming from the state of Haryana in North India and her father being a Mumbai Maharashtrian. She has one sibling; a sister.
Pednekar attended the prestigious Arya Vidya Mandir School in the upscale Mumbai area of Juhu from where she completed her matriculation. She continued her intermediate studies also from Mumbai but soon ventured into a career in the films starting out as a casting director for Yash Raj, who eventually decided to launch her.
Career Rise
Pednekar started off as an assistant to director Abhimanyu Ray and later worked in the capacity of an assistant casting director under Yash raj Film’s lead casting director Shanoo Sharma having worked in the role for as many as six years. When casting for Maneesh Sharma’s “Dum Laga Ke Haisha” began, Pednekar was asked to give a demo by the production house, which she thought would be used for other actors as a guideline and did not know that she was being tested for the role. Pednekar gave around 100 auditions until she was finally cast in the role of a chubby girl named Sandhya Verma who marries a man who does not like her for her chubbiness, but eventually falls in love, essayed by Ayushmann Khurana.
Pednekar famously put on 12 kilograms for her role in the film, but by the time the film was due for release and she was presented to the media, she had shed all the weight. The film went on to become a huge hit with Pednekar picking up the best female debut award, across all big film award ceremonies.
With renewed enthusiasm, a strict diet and disciplined workout regime, Pednekar began to get in shape for heroine-oriented roles.Pednekar starred in “Toilet: Ek Prem Katha” opposite actor Akshay Kumar, which released in August 2017. The movie turned out to be a huge box office relief, considering it was bogged down by flops in continuous succession.

It is quite evident that Bhumi doesn’t shy away from offbeat topics. Her third movie “Shubh Mangal Savdhan” opposite her debut film actor Ayushmann Khurana, is based on marital problems. She is also slated to appear in the yet unnamed 2018 film directed by Abhishek Chaubey. Yash Raj has also signed Pednekar for a three films contract.
Personal Life
The 160 cm (5 feet 3 inch tall) Pednekar is a very private person and has not divulged any details of her personal life. She is unmarried and there are no reports of her dating anyone.
She accredits actors Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Karisma Kapoor as her main influences in acting.
