Early life and Family
Kapil Sharma was born on April 2, 1981 in Amritsar, Punjab. He is the son of K. Sharma, a head constable in Punjab police and mother Janak Rani, a house wife. He has a brother Ashok Sharma and a sister, Pooja.
He belongs to a poor family and his father died of cancer in 2004 after fighting from the disease for many years. His father has always believed in his talent and was an inspiration for Kapil. He took up family responsibility at a young age after his father’s death and was focussed on being a comedian since beginning.
In his early 20s, Kapil worked in menial jobs like operating a PCO, transporting soft drinks and working in a cloth mill to support his family. Nonetheless, he kept his sense of humor intact and ensured that he entertained one and everyone he met through his quick wit.
After doing theatre for a couple of years, he moved to Mumbai. His first success came as a stand-up comedian when he became the winner of “The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, Season 3”. Then there was no looking back for him. He has participated and won nine comedy shows on television.

Kapil Sharma is a multi-talented personality. He has been into professional singing but always more keen to work as a comedian. He started his TV career with a comedy show – Hasde Hasande Ravo on MH One Punjabi channel. He tasted success with The Great Indian Laughter Challenge show in 2007 where he was declared as the winner and won 10 lakh rupees. He spent the entire money on his sister’s wedding.
Sony Entertainment channel gave him loads of work and fame. He was the winner of six seasons of popular weekly show Comedy Circus. He also got an opportunity to host sixth season of dance show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa on Sony channel and comedy show Chhote Miyan on Colors. He also contested in a comedy show – Ustaadon ke ustaad on Sony in 2008.
In 2013, he got a lifetime opportunity to launch his own comedy show with collaboration with Colors television channel – Comedy Nights with Kapil. This show is till date one of the most viewed shows on Indian television and is running successfully since three years.
With his increasing popularity and love from audience, he started co-hosting various award functions. He hosted Punjabi international film academy awards in 2012 at Toronto, Canada. He also hosted the 60th FilmFare awards in 2015 with Karan Johar. He was also one of the anchors of Celebrity Cricket League in 2014.
He has debuted in Bollywood in 2015 with Abbas Mustan’s “Kis Kis Ko Pyar Karoon”. It is a romantic comedy with Kapil Sharma in the lead role. His first movie was a moderate hit and was liked by the audience.
