Sumona Chakravarti is a popular Indian television and film actress and comedienne who is best known for her work on the comedy shows ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’ and ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’. Prior to that, Chakravarti was seen on the popular Sony TV show ‘Bade Achhe Lagte Hain’ in which she essayed the role of Natasha, a character with grey shades. The role earned Chakravarti nationwide recognition but she cemented her place in Indian households when she was cast to appear in Sony’s ‘Kahani Comedy Circus Ki’ which marked the beginning of her comedy career with ace comedian Kapil Sharma.
Chakravarti debuted in 1999 as a child-artiste in the Aamir Khan-Manisha Koirala starrer romance drama ‘Mann’. Her first big television role was in Balaji Telefilms’ ‘Kasamh Se’. She also had a small role in Anurag Basu’s hit silent-comedy ‘Barfi!’. Early Life and Education
Chakravarti was born on 24 June 1988 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India as the only daughter of her parents, a businessman father and home-maker mother. She was raised in a Hindu-Bengali household. Chakravarti spent the first few years of her life in Lucknow but her family later moved to Mumbai, Maharashtra. She has one sibling, a younger brother named Shivarga Chakravarti who is a Chef.
Chakravarti studied at the Loreto Convent School in Lucknow until she moved to Mumbai with her family. She then attended the Hiranandani Foundation School, Powai, Mumbai from where she completed her matriculation and later enrolled into Jai Hind College, Mumbai from where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics.
Career Rise
Chakravarti debuted at age 10 when she appeared as a child artiste in Indra Kumar’s ‘Mann’. Her first notable role was as Nivedita Deb in the popular Zee TV show ‘Kasamh Se’. She then appeared in Star Plus’ highly rated show ‘Kasturi’ in which she essayed the character of Vandy Singhania. Some of her other early roles include shows like ‘Sapno Se Bhare Naina’, ‘Neer Bhare Tere Naina Devi’, ‘Sun Yaar Chill Maar’, ‘Horror Nights’ and ‘Khotey Sikkey’.
Chakravarti gained nationwide recognition in 2012 when she was cast as the antagonist Natasha Kapoor in Ekta Kapoor’s hit television show ‘Bade Achhe Lagte Hain’ and also appeared in Anurag Basu’s ‘Barfi!’. This led her to be casted as a contestant on Sony TV’s ‘Kahani Comedy Circus Ki’ which marked the beginning of her partnership with comedian Kapil Sharma. The duo went on to win the show and developed a close friendship. When Sharma got his own TV show, on Colors TV, ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’, Chakravarti was cast as his wife Manju Sharma. The show ran from 2013-2016. The duo also acted together in Sony TV’s ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ in which she essayed ‘Sarla Gulati’. During this time, Chakravarti also appeared in shows such as ‘Ek Thhi Naayka’, and ‘Jamai Raja’. She hosted the travel show ‘Dubai Diaries’ and explored her adventurous side on the network’s ‘Swiss Made Adventures’ show. Currently, she appears as Meera Banerjee in the Colors TV show ‘Dev’.

Chakravarti has confirmed her relationship with Bengali actor Samrat Mukherjee. The couple, who have been dating for several years were rumoured to be entering matrimony in 2016. However, they refuted the speculation of being married anytime soon stating that they currently wish to work on building their careers before settling down.
An avid reader, Chakravarti claims to be a huge fan of the works of author Paulo Coelho.

Chakravarti’s father was hospitalized on October 6, 2018 when he was assaulted by an autorickshaw driver named Amit Gupta. According to Sumona’s statement, her father was taking her mom to the hospital. The concerned rickshaw driver had asked him for higher fare, and when her father didn’t budge, the driver assaulted him by hitting him with a rock on the head. The driver was arrested and later released on bail.
