Surveen Chawla is an Indian film actress who is mainly known for her 2014 sleeper hit ‘ Hate Story 2’. She was born in Chandigarh on July 16, 1984 into a Punjabi Sikh Family. Her father and brother are businessmen and mother a homemaker. She attended Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 16, in Chandigarh and later moved to Mumbai to try her luck in the film industries. She did her graduation in arts and initially wanted to choose medicine as a career but later changed her mind and decided to be an actress. She has worked in Bollywood, Tollywood and in Punjabi movies. Apart from movies, she has also done a couple of Daily soaps and has also hosted several reality shows. She was in a relationship with the cricketer Shreesanth with whom she also appeared on the reality dance show Ek khiladi Ek haseena.
She made her debut in television as Charu, for Ekta Kapoor’s Chawla made her serial Kahin To Hoga. Surveen has hosted television show Comedy Circus Ke SuperStars. In Kannada cinema she made her debut with the movie Paramesha Panwala. In the year 2011, she was in the lead role in Punjabi film Dharti where she was cast opposite Jimmy Shergill. Her other Punjabi films include Taur Mittran Di, Saadi Love Story, Singh vs Kaur , Lucky Di Unlucky Story and Disco Singh. Her first item number was for Sajid Khan’s Himmatwala, a bollywood film.
However it is only in Punjabi and Kannada films that the actress has received bigger roles. She also got a small but noticeable character in Anurag Kashyap’s thriller Ugly. Another film Hate Story 2 where she starred opposite Jay Bhanushali was was her first film as a lead actress in Bollywood and the film was successful critically and commercially. She recently did an item number called “Tuti Bole Wedding Di” in the Hindi film Welcome Back.
Surveen got famous with the show Kahiin To hoga with her character as Charu, one of the sisters of the lead actress. Her performance was very well received. She then made another prominent appearance in Ekta Kapoor’s Kasautii Zindagi Ki, where she played Kasak. On Sony Tv she got a show as the main lead. She played Kaajjal for the show with the same name. She also hosted Comedy Circus Ke superstars and was a contestant in the dance reality show Ek khiladi Ek Haseena where she was paired opposite cricketer Shreesanth whom she was apparently dating for a long time.
The 1.68 meter tall actress gave a couple of hits in Kannada and Telugu like Paramesha Panwala and Raju Maharaju respectively. In her own region she has been quiet a success with films like Dharti, Singh vs Kaur, Saadi loe story, Taur Mittra Di, Hero and Lucky Di Unlucky story amongst many others. Some Hindi films she has been a part of include Himmatwala, Hum Tum Shabana, Ugly, Hate story 2 and Welcome Back. She has been roped for the second season of Anil Kapoor’s 24.
