The last few years have been very unkind to Shah Rukh Khan as one after the other all his releases flopped at the box office. Raees of 2017 was an exception, but it was not considered a big hit, rather just an average performer.
Khan had taken a leap of faith in 2018 and opted to play the role of a dwarf ‘Bauua Singh’ in the Aanand L Rai directed comedy drama ‘Zero’. The film also starred Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif as the female protagonists. However, this movie also failed to create any magic at the box office. Zero mostly had negative reviews and was mostly shunned by the movie going public. As of Jan 2019, the film has however crossed the INR 100-crore barrier and currently has worldwide collections of INR 178 crores. Thus, Zero is one of the top ten grossing Bollywood films of 2018.
Shah Rukh Khan however had better than average success with his IPL team KKR (Kolkatta Knight Riders) in IPL 2018. His team qualified for the playoffs and defeated Rajasthan Royals in the first playoff. KKR however lost to SRH (SunRisers Hyderabad) in the eliminator and thus did not qualify for the finals. KKR has made some good player choices and replacements during the 2019 IPL auctions. They may well have a great IPL 2019 season, which is slated to start in late March.
As an actor, Shah Rukh will next be seen as astronaut Rakesh Sharma in the biopic movie ‘Saare Jahaan Se Accha’. The film is tentatively slated to have a Christmas 2019 theatrical release.

However, one should remember that it is not failure for Shah Rukh Khan’s professionally, except for his personal brand. His special effects company ‘Red Chillies’ has still made a lot of money for Khan. The company did the production and back-end technical work for Ranveer Singh’s bit hit of 2018, Simmba.
Shah Rukh Khan will have a cameo role in ‘Badla’ in 2019. Badla is produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and is directed by Sujoy Gh0sh of Kahaani-fame. The film has Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Panu as protagonists.

After wrapping up Saare Jaahan se Achcha, SRK will be shooting for Farhan Akhtar-directed Don 3. Unlike Don 2, which continued from where Don ended, Don 3 will be completely fresh and have a different approach. The shooting starts August 2019 and the film is set to release in the summer of 2020. The film will be shot digitally with IMAX Arri Alexa cameras and have Dolby Atmos sound and Dolby Vision picture.
